30days 英作文 in April

f:id:cocodailylife:20200601193601j:plain

3things that make you really happy.

Describe your personality.

Do you have any fears? If so, what are they?

f:id:cocodailylife:20210309200226p:plain

The Mitchell Map

In the 18th century, Britain and France had a conflict in North America. British officer Halifax told Mitchell to create a map of Morth America because Britain was concerned about the intrusions of France. Although Britain won, it had spent so much money, so it imposed a tax on the American colonies. This led to another conflict between Britain and America, and eventually, Americans won. After that, British and American decided on new boundaries by using Mitchrll's map.

Acting and the Brain

When actors play a role, "suspension of disbelief" sometimes happens. It is a phenomenon that people know the play is not the real world, however, they subconsciously believe it is.
Not only actors but also ordinary people experience that matter. It is harmful to people because they might lose perception between self and non-self.

Writing(Japanese Tourism)

f:id:cocodailylife:20201224192517p:plain

1. What do you think are some typical things of Japan?

There are numerous kinds of things that represent “Japan”. In this essay, I am going to introduce some usual things and habits in our nation.

Primarily, we have some places, like Kanazawa and Kawagoe, that have the atmosphere of "good old Japan”. Not only Japanese but also visitors from foreign countries enjoy strolling the old streets. Those historical towns except for Kyoto are called “Sho-Kyoto (small-Kyoto)” because most of them were modeled after Kyoto in the Muromachi Jidai era (1336-1573). If tourists visit those places, they will think of halcyon days in Japan.

In addition, they can enjoy various traditional arts. Although Noh play and Kabuki performance are well-known among visitors, I strongly recommend that people explore Rakugo. Rakugo is a traditional Japanese comic storytelling. In rakugo, the storyteller called Rakugoka sits before the audience and uses his/her eyes, gestures, along with props such as a folding fan or hand towel, to portray several different characters in the story. In the end, the storyteller always delivers a punch line (called ochi), which makes the audience entertained at some witticism or unexpected conclusion. Currently, some storytellers play English rakugo so people can enjoy humorous stories without comprehending the Japanese language.

Lastly, I would like to partake about the winter custom of "eating mikan (Japanese mandarin oranges) in a kotatsu”. Kotatsu is a table with a built-in heater and a blanket. Although I do not possess one, most people have kotatsu and enjoy spending time on it during winter. In general, there are some mikans on the kotatsu, and people eat them as a snack while watching TV. It is cold in winter, and once they get into a kotatsu, they are completely captivated by its warmth and become addicted to it. Even if people want to go to the bathroom, they hold off going there until the last minute. When eating mikan, people don't have to use a knife. They can peel easily with their hands, so they do not need to leave kotatsu to bring the knife. In this way, the combination of kotatsu and mikan pamper people and make them unmotivated during winter.

I work as a part-time teacher at an elementary school. I teach 1st-grade students.

At the elementary school, the 1st-grade students asked me if I was Japanese. Of course I'm Japanese and I've never been asked that kind of question until I started to work at the elementary school. I wondered why they thought I was not Japanese. The elementary school is located in Abiko City, Chiba Prefecture. The students living in Abiko City usually speak standard Japanese. However, I sometimes speak Osaka dialect because I was born in and grew up near Osaka. In addition, they still don't know that there are many dialects in Japanese. That's why they asked me that kind of question. Actually, the students I taught last year also asked me the same question. I was really surprised when I was asked that for the first time. It's interesting for me.

The standard Japanese and the Osaka dialect are quite different. Not only accent and words but grammar are different between them. For example, we say "tsukareta" in standard Japanese when we feel tired but we say "shindoi" in Osaka dialect. We also say “naosu” in standard version of Japanese when we repair something but “naosu” means to put something away in Osaka dialect. Like those examples, there are many differences between the standard Japanese and the Osaka dialect.

Therefore, the students seem to think that I often speak a foreign language. Sometimes they can't understand me. If I find that children aren't able to understand what I said, I always reword what I said in standard Japanese.

There are no rules that teacher should not use dialects in Japan. Of course, I have tried not to speak in my dialect as much as possible. However, I think knowing dialects is a good thing for children because they can be interested in other places, customs, lives and so on. Moreover, they can increase their Japanese vocablaries by knowing dialects. Actually, they usually ask, "How far is Osaka from here?" "What is the meaning of shindoi?" "I know Osaka because my grandparents live there!" when they know that I am Japanese and I'm from near Osaka. Through knowing the dialects, I hope that they will aquire a broad range of knowledge.

Academic Writing

◆1. Is online learning as good as face-to-face learning?

In 2020, online learning started to become popular because of the pandemic. Under the stay-at-home requests, a lot of students are forced to take classes at home. However, I do not think that online learning is as good as face-to-face learning for the following three reasons.

Firstly, it is difficult for students to learn practical subjects online such as music, art, and sports. Teachers make various learning videos for their students. However, most of those videos are major subjects, like Japanese and mathematics, for instance. For teachers, it is not easy to teach how to sing, play instruments, or do track and field like the marathons through the internet.

Also, students tend to have difficulties in terms of keeping their concentration when they take online classes. In case of online lectures where a lot of students take part, teachers talk one-sidedly, and students just listen to them. There is no interaction. As a result, learners cannot concentrate on what teachers conduct.

Lastly, there is a financial problem. If students take online classes, their parents have to prepare some types of equipment to let them have lectures. Some families have enough money to buy a gadget and set up an internet connection. On the other hand, others cannot afford to prepare for the classes because of their financial problems.

In conclusion, for the above-mentioned three reasons, I believe online learning is not as good as face-to-face learning.

Corrected sentences

In modern society, learners have various choices to learn academics. Some people argue that online platforms are as good as the classroom setting. However, I do not think that both of these matters are on the same level of merits, and I will elucidate the three reasons in the following paragraphs.

Firstly, it is difficult for students to learn practical subjects online such as music, art, and sports. Teachers make various learning videos for their students. However, most of those videos are major subjects, like Japanese and Mathematics, for instance. For educational mentors, it is not easy to teach how to sing, play instruments, or do track and field like the marathons through the internet.

Secondly, students tend to have difficulties in terms of keeping their concentration when they take online classes. In case of online lectures where a lot of students take part, teachers talk one-sidedly, and students just listen to them, so it is not interactive.

Lastly, there is a financial problem. Parents have to prepare some pieces of equipment for attending the lectures. Some families have sufficient money to buy a gadget and set up an internet connection, and others do not.

All in all, for the above-mentioned three reasons, I believe online learning is not as good as face-to-face learning.

◆2. Should tablet become the primary way students learn in class?

Although the internet environment in schools has not been well-maintained yet, it is gradually becoming more popular. Some private schools start to use tablets in classes nowadays. I think tablets should become the primary way students learn in class, and I will elucidate the three reasons in the following paragraphs.

Firstly, tablets are easy to carry for children. Students have to bring their textbooks, notebooks, and other things to school on weekdays. Their luggage weighs approximately 10 kg. Because of this, some children are suffered from the symptoms of a bent spine. If usage of tablets becomes widespread, they will no longer have to carry such heavy baggage or be worried about their health.

Secondly, using tablets helps students with disabilities learn things more comfortably. For example, the function to read aloud and to magnify the pages on textbook will help children with visual impairments learn. It is useful for students who have difficulties in terms of recognizing text to change text color, typeface, and background color in tablet learning.

Lastly, learners can install various apps to learn on tablets. This enables them not only to access so many amounts of information but also to understand what they learned clearly. They can search for what they want to know as soon as possible so that using tablets in learning supports them to study voluntarily.

All in all, for the above-mentioned three reasons, I believe tablets should become the primary way students learn in class.

Corrected sentences

Although the modern era of learning in schools has not been well-maintained yet, it is gradually becoming more popular. Some private schools are starting to use a tablet in classes nowadays. I think this device should become the keyway for students to learn in class, and I will elucidate the three reasons in the following paragraphs.

Firstly, students will no longer have to carry such heavy baggage or be worried about their health. Elucidating in detail, tablets are easy to carry for children instead of bringing their textbooks, notebooks, and other things. Their luggage weighs approximately 10 kilograms. Because of this, some children are suffering from the symptoms of a bent spine.

Secondly, using tablets helps students with disabilities learn things more comfortably. For example, the function to read aloud and to magnify the pages on electrical textbooks will help children with minimal visual impairments learn. It is useful for students who have difficulties in terms of recognizing text to change text color, typeface, and background color in tablet learning.

Lastly, learners can install various applications on tablets, so it is more convenient for acquiring knowledge. This enables them not only to access so many amounts of information but also to understand what they learned clearly. They can search for what they want to know as soon as possible so that using it in learning supports them to study voluntarily.

All in all, for the above-mentioned three reasons, I believe the merits of using tablets will surpass its drawbacks.

Writing(Technology)

1.Write about where artificial intelligence (AI) is used in our daily lives.

Nowadays, artificial intelligence is commonly used in our daily lives and it can give us convenience too.

Firstly, when I write English essays, I usually use an app called Grammarly. It checks my writings and points out some mistakes like misspelled words and grammatical errors. Grammarly also suggests some amendments. Also, it shows my score in English writing. Although writing in English is sometimes stressful for people who use it as a second language, Grammarly can help them alleviate their burden.

Secondly, many people have recently used vacuum cleaner robots when they clean their houses. This robot has an AI function. It automatically cleans the house by itself. The cleaner robot can remember where the furniture is located and where it has already cleaned. Furthermore, when it is done, it goes back to where the charger is situated. There are only a few people who like sweeping the floor, however, people no longer need to clean the house if they have cleaner robots.

In conclusion, AI helps people live better. Many products will be developed in the future and people's lives will become more convenient.

2.Give examples of how AI has improved our lives, compared to when you were a child.

With AI being developed, our lives have improved much better. I am going to take two examples of how AI has made our lives convenient.

In the 1960s, people had to sweep the floor by using brooms. After that, they began to use vacuum cleaners. However, conventional cleaners were heavy and had long hoses and power cables. Because of this, people were often bothered. Once robots for sweeping the floor will be utilized, people will no longer feel stressed when cleaning. The robots will automatically do the job. People will have more time to relax.

In Japan, people like to shop online. When they received a delivery notice in their mailbox, they had to call the delivery service to ask for a re-delivery. These days, they do not have to call the delivery service because they are able to use a chatbot to ask for a re-delivery. Also, people can easily change their delivery date and time through the chatbot.

In this way, AI has improved our lives. I hope AI will help people in various aspects.

3.AI is now widely used for different purposes. Some people say that AI should be used more. What do you think about this idea?

I think that AI should be used more. There are two main reasons why I think this way.
Firstly, AI can help people work comfortably. For example, the number of workers in the care industry is not sufficient. The employees have a lot of tasks to do. By introducing an AI system, they do not have to do all tasks by themselves.

Secondly, implementing AI systems enables companies to reduce expenses. They can cut down on labor costs if they introduce the AI system. Cost reduction is necessary for increasing company profits.

In conclusion, it is necessary for people to use AI more. I firmly believe that using AI will help people improve the way they live now.

Writing(English Education)

1. Explain how you are currently studying English.

I have been learning English for almost three years. I usually study English for three hours a day. Except for taking online English classes, I check some news articles through the Internet, read books, and sometimes watch English movies with subtitles.

The number of tourists and locals are still small because Japan is a racially homogeneous nation. Only a few people are able to speak and understand English as well. The struggle I saw in learning English was to find a chance to use English every day. I hope we will have more opportunities to use English in our daily life.

2. What do you think you can do to improve your English communication skills?

I think there are two main suggestions to improve my English communication skills.

First of all, I have to practice talking with English speakers more and more. In improving English, it is important to make mistakes and try to practice repeatedly. As it is said that practice makes perfect, to keep learning is the most important key to enhance my skills.

Secondly, I have to read books and watch movies in English. Since I do not have enough opportunities to use English in my daily life, I need to make a lot of chances to encounter English expressions as much as I can.

Learning a lot of expressions and idioms by reading English can also improve my listening and comprehension skills.

3. Do you think it is necessary to have English communication skills in Japan?

Yes, I firmly believe that it is necessary to have good English communication skills in Japan. There are two main reasons why I think this way.

First of all, the number of foreigners who plan to visit Japan has been increasing. We can see many foreign people in the city. With the advancing globalization, the demand for speaking other languages has been rising.

Secondly, English is the most spoken language all over the world. If we have good English communication skills, we can converse with a lot of people. We are able to keep in touch with tourists and it makes our lives much better.

In conclusion, having good English communication skills will make our lives better and fruitful.
